Box and Subframe on DAF T244
This ex-army DAF was purchased by our customer who wanted a simple box and subframe made to suit the vehicle.
The DAF is 4x4 and is a capable offroader with impressive approach and departure angles so we designed the box to keep it that way.
A 4-point torsion free subframe was designed to allow the truck to fully articulate without damaging the habitation box.
DAF T244 Pre Project
The T244's are a popular choice for an expedition truck and have a strong community of owners, particularly in the UK.
CAD Design
We always build up the design in SolidWorks first, here the truck is shown with the subframe, optimised for weight with a series of cut-outs.
Subframe
Once the subframe arrives from galvanising we check over it and ensure it complies with our drawings.
Box Build
The box build starts from the ground up with CNC machined panels that are bonded together to form the unit.
Box Build
With all the panels in place the hab box is ready for it's windows and cappings.
Box Build
These are bonded on and in using a high strength, high elasticity MS adhesive.
Coming Together
With the subframe mounting points mounted on the chassis, the combined box and subframe is dropped on.
The completed unit
The build is ready to go on to it's owner to be fitted out internally and to get travelling!
Access Steps
We added a simple and cost effective set of commercial galvanised access steps with a slide out platform at the top.
A Look Inside
The inside is spacious and airy with the Outbound windows letting in lots of light.
Subframe Details
Our subframes are hot dip galvanised inside and out to ensure decades of corrosion protection.
Extended Range
We added a large aluminium diesel tank to increase the fuel capacity and replace the rusting steel tank.
Torsion Test
Proving that the vehicle is still just as capable, it's full articulation is shown here with the forces isolated from the box thanks to the 4-point torsion free subframe.
