Our new gears are manufactured in Europe and are machined using the same technique as the Mercedes gears.
Fitting is straightforward and no special tools required. Assembly instructions are included in the Unimog workshop manual.
Because of the change in ratio your speedometer will no longer be accurate. We recommend fitting our electronic speedo - £615+VAT.
Pricing and Compatibility
The price above includes fitting.
These fit most Unimogs with 6 bolt wheels.
If your Unimog has 8 or 10 bolt wheels these gears will not fit.
Please contact us with your axle numbers and chassis number to confirm whether these gears are suitable for your vehicle. Dependent on the year of your vehicle additional parts may be required to allow these gears to fit.
*IMPORTANT NOTE* Occasionally it is necessary to machine the spur gear hole on the hub casing to allow clearance for the spur gear as it is slightly larger diameter than the factory version
Note that it is good practice to replace all seals and to inspect bearings whilst replacing the hub gears. We can supply any necessary parts at additional cost.
These gears are not suitable for 406/416 & 417 models. For these vehicles we offer faster ratio crownwheel & pinions.
Your old gears may have a part-exchange value if they are in good condition.

“I do highly recommend these gears. They are much easier to install than ring and pinion upgrades and one also has the peace of mind knowing that all the hub bearings and seals are new. I have put a couple thousand kilometres onto my truck with the replacement hub gears. They are certainly a vast improvement over the original gearing and the Unimog can now travel at a comfortable 100+ kph. I am easily doing 60MPH on the freeway at 2100rpm or so. Truck is way quieter and nicer to drive"
" With the fast hub gears I experience a lower fuel consumption on highways. But the most important: My U1300L from 1984 has a manufacturer top speed of 84kph. This is too slow to "swim" with the commercial trucks on highways. Thanks to the fast hub gears, I can easily go at 90kph while the engine runs with 2500rpm instead of 3100rpm at 84 in original state. This is important for me, when I have to go hundreds of kms to a holiday-destination"
